President of Uzbekistan holds talks with Prime Minister of Slovenia
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As part of his official visit to the Republic of Slovenia, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob.
The parties focused primarily on deepening the multifaceted Uzbekistan-Slovenia cooperation, particularly in trade, economic, and investment sectors. The productive results of the high-level negotiations were noted, and mutual readiness to expand practical cooperation was confirmed.
Both sides emphasized the need to intensify efforts to increase the volume of mutual trade, implement joint investment projects, and expand cooperation. It was highlighted that the business forum held during the visit will serve as an effective platform for establishing new business contacts and promoting promising initiatives.
Measures were agreed upon to increase the trade turnover to 500 million euros by boosting mutual supplies of in-demand products. The existing “GSP+” preferential system and the recently signed agreement on standardization, which provides access to European technical requirements, will play an important role in this process.
The parties agreed to prepare a Development Plan for Industrial Cooperation with a focus on technological modernization. Slovenian companies’ intentions to implement investment projects in Uzbekistan in such sectors as electrical engineering, instrumentation, pharmaceuticals, green energy, and digital agriculture were supported. To localize production, territory within the industrial park under development for European companies managed by “Inpark” will be offered.
Ways of systemic cooperation in labor migration were also discussed. An agreement was reached to establish a permanent expert group and prepare the regulatory framework governing this process.
Special attention was given to transport logistics issues. The parties expressed their readiness to jointly explore the possibility of opening direct air communication between the two countries and to use the infrastructure of the Slovenian port of Koper for Uzbek goods to enter the European Union market.
A substantial part of the negotiations was dedicated to humanitarian cooperation. Interest was expressed in Slovenia’s experience in developing eco-tourism, including in mountainous and rural areas. Steps to expand cooperation in education were agreed upon, including holding a Youth Innovation Forum in Tashkent.
In 2026, cross-cultural Days and Uzbek Film Week are planned to be organized in Ljubljana to deepen cultural ties between the two peoples.
The parties agreed to hold the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission in Ljubljana in July of this year and to adopt a bilateral “roadmap” to coordinate and timely implement the agreements reached.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the President of Uzbekistan invited Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob to visit Uzbekistan at a convenient time.
